Is there a better search tool for windows 2003?

Hello,

I have just done a search on our windows file server for all *.mov files and
there are 100's.  From this returned search list I want to cut these files
and put in a folder for archiving, but the Windows search tool will only
allow one file at a time.

Is there a better tool to do this sort of thing?

You could use robocopy.exe. It has a /mov switch which causes the file to be
moved rather than copied. You can get it from here:

I've used robocopy before, but need to select a date range or files older
the 4 weeks.

I don't get why one at a time. The explorer result window should allow
multi-selection of files for whatever purpose.

I can select multiple objects from the search window, but when you try and
cut them from this window you get the error:

Cannot move file: Cannot read from the source file or disk

If you are getting that message, the files may be at a location that you do not have permissions to, such as a user's profile.

If this is not the case, are there any errors in Event viewer concerning the drive?

Might be some file corruption. Try less or different files to verify.

Try this sequence of commands:
robocopy /? > c:\robocopy.txt
notepad c:\robocopy.txt

You will note that robocopy has a rich set of switches. Selecting a date
range is one of its more basic functions.
