I have created a global policy that pertains to particular computers.  This
policy tells which server is the update server and provides distinct time to
automatically install updates.  The auto updates are not occuring.  Domain
controller is on windows 2008 sp1, update server is windows 2008 sp 1 as
well. Any suggestions?

Hello VGE,

On the client make sure with rsop or gpresult /v that the GPO is applied.
Are the computers in the OU where the GPO is applied to? Do NOT leave them
in the computers container.

Best regards

Hello msvge@community.nospam

In addition to Meinolf's suggestions - Did you have WSUS running and created a policy based on WSUS computer targeting?

What errors do you see in the event logs on the DC and clients?

Is the DC multihomed, meaning more than one NIC or IP, and if so, the NICs are not teamed?

Are you using an ISP's DNS address in your DC and client machine's IP properties and not just the internal domain controller for DNS?

Please post an unedited ipconfig /all from the DC and from a sample client that is not working to better help wth diagnosing this.
