Backup Tape problem: "The drive is not present in the library"

Hello,
I am facing the following problem:
I have an Hewlett Packard DAT72 drive mounted on a Compaq Proliant Server
running Windows 2003 standard. When I start the computer the Tape drive
cannot be recognised and thus used.
That is in Computer Management>storage>Libraries there is a red X on the
Hewlett Packard DAT72 drive, claiming that "The drive is not present in the
library".
Drivers are installed, updated and appear to be working(no problem in device
manager).
However, if I restart the computer the tape drive is *found* (no X appears)
and can be used with no problems. I use the built in Windows backup utility.
Can you please help, this problem has been bugging me for quite a long time.
Thank you.
Alex

Hi Alex:

Try the following:
* Under Computer Management\Removable Storage\Libraries  is listed the Tape
device, so I right click and open "properties" and check "enable drive"

* and make sure under Services is running "Removable Storage"

Fernando.
