Switching from workgroups to domainI've setup Win Server 2003 Ent Ed initially for workgroups but now am getting
ready to set up a domain. What I want to do is transfer all users in the workgroup into the domain. Is that something I can do without disrupting sevices. Or will I have to wait until everyone is off the system? As I understand it all I need to do is run the AD Wizard and its default configuration should be able to handle my small network of 15 wrkstations. Right? You will have to go to each computer and join it to the new domain. User's
profiles will change. > As I understand it all I need to do is run the AD Wizard and its default No. You need to set up DNS. I'm afraid there's a little bit more to installing AD.
at least you have to configure user accounts after installing the AD then you have to get every machine into the domain. User profiles will be 'reset' because AD users are different users than in a workgroup. You can use the User State Migrartion Tool (USMT) to migrate the profiles And of course you have to configure the access rights on your server. All this is not a big effort, but still think it over what to do when and how before you rush in(to desaster) :) Axel Show quoteHide quote "GravesRC" <Grave***@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:737C2D9D-11D9-43F6-A555-1F36ED4C9B3A@microsoft.com... > I've setup Win Server 2003 Ent Ed initially for workgroups but now am > getting > ready to set up a domain.
