apply permission to child objectsHello,
I have a Windows 2000 network. I want to give a group permissions at the root, and have that group's permissions filter down to all child objects without losing any of the permissions that are all ready there. Some of the folders in the share do not inherit from parent ( I just inherited this network from the previous admin) but when you select "replace permission entries on all child objects......" it will replace all child object permissions with the ones that are on the root. I do not want this. SO, is there a way to have a group's permissions filter down to all child objects without losing any of the permissions that are all ready there? Thanks in advance! By default child objects inherit permissions from the parent. You can alter
this behavior by clearing the check box for 'Allow inheritable permissions...' on the Security tab in the child folder's properties. If you have done this and you do not want to revert to the default behavior, then you will have to separately add the new group to the permissions list on each child folder which is not inheriting from its parent.
