copying files to 2003 serverHello!
Can someone tell me why I can't copy files to any of my 2003 servers? When I connect to a share on the 2003 server and try to copy a file I receive the Access is denied error- Make sure disk is not full or write protected and that the file is not currently in use. I'm sure it has something to do with permissions but I can't figure it out. Any help is appreciated! -- KS By default, Windows 2003 server gives everyone 'read' permissions to shares
that you create. This differs from Windows 2000 server where it gave everyone 'full' permissions to the share. Go to the directory that you shared from your server and check the share permission properties. -- Show quoteHide quoteMike "KS" <K*@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:BB79DC5C-07D7-49C8-BDA7-61AE0A10C766@microsoft.com... > Hello! > Can someone tell me why I can't copy files to any of my 2003 servers? There's two sets of permissions when you connect through a share, the share permissions and the NTFS permissions. If the share permissions are left at the default of 'everyone' having 'read' then it doesn't matter what the NTFS permissions are, no one, even admins, will have anything greater than read capabilities when connecting through the share. You can either set 'everyone' to 'full' or better yet, grant your individual local groups permissions to the share (keeping in mind that between the share and NTFS, the most restrictive permission between the two will apply to any specific group). -- Show quoteHide quoteMike "KS" <K*@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:080E4CB0-55C0-46A7-8E48-895B7BF46851@microsoft.com... > Do you mean NTFS permissions? > -- > KS > > > "Mike Brearley" wrote: > >> By default, Windows 2003 server gives everyone 'read' permissions to >> shares >> that you create.
