NetBT 4319 error on domain controller

Hi,

I keep gettting this message on the domain controller.  Everything else
seems ok on this server.  Could these messages belong to some other
workstations on the network?  The following is the error, where is the ip
address that I need to look for.

thanks

Roger

A duplicate name has been detected on the TCP network.  The IP address of
the machine that sent the message is in the data. Use nbtstat -n in a
command window to see which name is in the Conflict state.

It clearly states that there is another computer with the same name on
the network.
Run nbtstat -n to check out which name is causing this eroor message to
apear.

Hi,
This is what I get when I run nbtstat -n

Microsoft Windows [Version 5.2.3790]
(C) Copyright 1985-2003 Microsoft Corp.

C:\Documents and Settings\administrator.BHC>nbtstat -n

Local Area Connection 2:
Node IpAddress: [172.20.x.xxx] Scope Id: []

                NetBIOS Local Name Table

       Name               Type         Status
    ---------------------------------------------
    MISDC1         <00>  UNIQUE      Registered
    BHC            <00>  GROUP       Registered
    BHC            <1C>  GROUP       Registered
    MISDC1         <20>  UNIQUE      Registered
    BHC            <1B>  UNIQUE      Registered
    BHC            <1E>  GROUP       Registered
    BHC            <1D>  UNIQUE      Registered
    ..__MSBROWSE__.<01>  GROUP       Registered

C:\Documents and Settings\administrator.BHC>

Everything is working, but I keep getting the error.  This is on a domain
controller.  It started at 5:30 am one morning, and there would be no
changes made at that time.

thanks

Roger

I guess I don't understand the error.  Are you saying from this message
there are two misdc1's?  Everything says unique - to me that means only one.
How can I locate the other ip, or what am I looking for?  Duplicates are
usually easy to figure out, but this one doesn't make any sense to me.
thanks again

I configured wins for that server and the errors went away.  I was under the
impression that we did not need wins anymore?
thanks

You can get away without it...disable NetBIOS over TCP/IP to make the
broadcast chatter shut up, and just use DNS. Although browsing can be nice,
and Exchange still likes WINS. I tend to install it, still, unless there's
some compelling reason not to.

Is this a multihomed domain controller, by any chance?

Roger
No, this server has two builtin cards, but I have disabled one.  What is
funny this server has run for 4 months and changed at 5:30  one morning.
This has an ip I set into the server.  I can ping it by ip or name and all
seems to work.  I guess just trying to locate the ip or any information from
the error I posted to find the other computer or can something else cause
this?  Usually it is easy to find these other computers, but I seem to be
unable to this time.

thanks

Roger
