Unauthorising DHCP server after DHCP is uninstalled

I uninstalled DHCP from a Windows 2000 server after demoting it as a DC. I
then moved the same IP address to a windows 2003 server with an already
authorised DHCP server, and now understandably when I run up DHCP via my
local admin tools, it shows the old 2000 DHCP server as authorised on the
original IP.

If I try and unauthorise, it tells me there is no such object. Ive ran up
adsiedit after following http://support.microsoft.com/kb/306925, and after
looking at the dhcproot record, it does show the old 2000 server being on the
original IP. I was going to delete the record, but im not 100% sure what to
add back in, as the existing record is a very long string. Will I be ok just
adding deleting the record and adding the IP address back in again, or is
more needed

Thanks

Andy

Hello Andy,

If you have deleted the old one make sure the new server is still authorized
or authorize it again. Do not add a new one with adsiedit.

We havent deleted anything yet, however im more concerned about the syntax of
what we add in

The new DHCP server is working fine and offering IP leases as normal. So
going off your reply, would the following work ?

1  Remove the old server record
2  unauthorise the new server
3  reauthorise the new server

Thanks

Andy

Hello Andy,

If the new server is listed correct within dhcpservers in adsiedit and the
old one also, remove the old one and that should be all.

The new server isnt listed at all though, thats the concern. Thats why I was
asking about what to enter as a new record, as the existing records contain a
lot more that just the IP address

Or will unautorising and reauthorising straight away work ?

The string is in the format of "i(IP address)$rcn=(fqdn)$f0x000000$(fqdn)$
