Server 2505 errorI have a Windows 2003 server that gives me a Server 2505 error on
startup, claiming a name conflict with a Canon iR6570 multifunction copy machine. I looked over the TCP/IP settings on the copy machine and can't see a problem. I am also unable to browse the network from the server. The server has one NIC, does not have NetBEUI installed, and File and Print Sharing is enabled. Another scanner on the network is unable to use SMB to scan to the server. What could be causing this? "Andrew M. (though I don't recall exactly what it is; probably the default name for that model). That is why I am mystified; it's another of those errors that seems to make no sense whatsoever. We are not using WINS on the server, and the printer is not set to use it either. I have been tempted to install it, as I have seen it make things run more smoothly even though logically it should not be needed on an all-XP/2003 network. Obviously there's a name conflict somewhere. Is the printer installed on the server? Does the server have two NICs? Ace Hi, Ace--
The printer is installed on the server, but I don't see anything odd about it. The server has just one NIC. As far as I know, it never had more than one. Really strange. -- Andrew Show quoteHide quote "Ace Fekay [Microsoft Certified Trainer]" <ace***@mvps.RemoveThisPart.org> wrote in message news:%23VWdo995JHA.4116@TK2MSFTNGP04.phx.gbl... > "Andrew M. So I don;t know about the printer, but I thought originally it was because of multiple interfaces due to RRAS where the printer name came up with this server's IP address since it was installed and shared out. If you had shut off the printer for an hour, does it still show a dupe name error? Maybe there's something else out there with a dupe name? Ace Tomorrow, I'm going to try shutting off the printer and then
restarting the server while it is shut down. I won't be able to wait fifteen minutes, but maybe if the server goes up first it will at least make the server work right. Ace I shut down both the Canon iR6570 and another Canon multifunction
unit, an iR1023 that would not scan via SMB to the file server (that was the big problem, and I believe that it was somehow related to the conflict with the 6570), and then I restarted the file server. Everything worked fine after that. I can browse the network from the server, the conflict message went away, and scanning works from the Canon iR1023. I guess the solution for now is to shut down the 6570 and maybe the 1023 whenever the server is restarted. Not elegant, but at least it worked. -- Andrew Show quoteHide quote "Ace Fekay [Microsoft Certified Trainer]" <ace***@mvps.RemoveThisPart.org> wrote in message news:OILZfJL6JHA.1380@TK2MSFTNGP05.phx.gbl... > "Andrew M.
