Permissions and Image ViewerWe seem to have some strange behaviour going on with XP image viewer. I am trying to set up a series of folders for people to view images (actually scanned drawings). On win2003 server I have given users read only permissions to folders, subfolders and files. I have applied these permissions by ticking "apply to child objects, files...." at the top level folder. I have removed inherited permissions from the top level folder. On the advice of Miha Pihler I have copied files rather than move them from a temporary scan folder to the structured library of folders. Now the issue is: If I go to a client PC with user access rights (read only), then opening files that were in the library folders when the permissions were changed produces different results to opening files which have subsequently been copied there. eg original file - opens in viewer with annotation options unavailable right clicking on file properties shows read only box ticked selecting the option to change to image editor takes user straight into image attemting to save the image over the existing name generates unable to save prompt new copied file - opens in viewer with annotation options enabled right clicking on file properties shows read only box not ticked selecting the option to change to image editor results in a "read only file" pop up message attemting to save the image over the existing name generates unable to save prompt So the question is: Why are files of the same type in the same folder with inherited properties enabled behaving differently? TIA Phil |
