Remote Desktop on Win2K ServerHello all,
Does anyone know if Remote Desktop is available on Windows 2000 Server? If it is not avialable, can it be added (so we can RD into the server--NOT RD to another machine from the server)? Thanks for any help anyone can provide, Conan Kelly Conan Kelly wrote:

Search using Google! http://www.google.com/ (How-to: http://www.google.com/intl/en/help/basics.html ) ----------------------- Windows 2000 server Terminal Services must be configured through Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs -> Windows Components -> Terminal Services. Now select "Administrative Mode". This will allow two remote connections to the server. ----------------------- -- Shenan Stanley MS-MVP -- How To Ask Questions The Smart Way http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html In news:O6eYAbLjFHA.4028@TK2MSFTNGP10.phx.gbl, Conan Kelly <CTBarbarin at msn dot com> typed:> Hello all, Nope -> > Does anyone know if Remote Desktop is available on Windows 2000 > Server? > If it is not avialable, can it be added (so we can RD into You can install terminal services in admin mode (for 2 concurrent admin-only > the server--NOT RD to another machine from the server)? logins - not for users) or in application mode (you'll then need to install Terminal Server Licensing Server & buy CALs). Don't do the latter if it isn't a server dedicated for this purpose. Show quoteHide quote > > Thanks for any help anyone can provide, > > Conan Kelly Hi Conan!
Windows 2000 does not have Remote Desktop, it was first shipped with Windows XP, and now also Windows Server 2003. Prior to Windows Server 2003 (looking at the server side), there was something called Terminal Services in Remote Administration Mode. This gives you the ability to remotly administrate the server, and is very similar to Remote Desktop. It does not require any TS licenses, and are limited to two concurrent connections. Please see this KB Article on how to install this: "HOW TO: Install Terminal Services in Remote Administration Mode in Windows 2000" http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;306624&sd=tech A Non-Microsoft solution is for example VNC. But since there is no additional costs to use TS in Remote Administration Mode, you do not need to install third-party software unless you want.
