Backing Up Computer SID's on Server 2003 StandardHello,
I would like to take just a backup of the computer SID's on our server. I've read that System State will back up this and much more, but, I believe that the registry on the server is corrupted, so I don't want to back it up as well. I am looking at redoing the server and don't want to have to unjoin each XP machine from the domain, redo the server, and then rejoin each computer back to the domain. Any suggestions/assistance with this would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. -- Dennis Klaustermeyer Computer Technician United Local School District I don't understand what you are saying.
Computer accounts are stored in the AD not the registry. Not since NT4. Do you have another DC running? On our Server 2003 Standard DC, I
believe that there is a problem with the registry, hence I don't want to use SystemState to make a backup of it even though I know that SystemState will also back up the AD (which is where the computer SID's are located at.) So, I want to know if there is some way just to backup the computer SID's from the file server besides using SystemState (which also backs up the registry file.) Hope that that makes more sense. And no, there isn't another DC; but there will be after the server in question is redone. -- Show quoteHide quoteDennis Klaustermeyer Computer Technician United Local School District "Manny Borges" wrote: > I don't understand what you are saying. > Computer accounts are stored in the AD not the registry. listed (such as RM211-1, RM211-2, etc.) each with its own SID. When I redo the file server, I would really like to have a backup of just those computer names and the associated SID so that I don't have to manually go to each XP machine at some point in time and unjoin them from the network, possibly create a new SID and then rejoin them back to the "new" network.
