Black Screen after POST

Hi folks,
I have this strange problem on one of my win2k3 Domain Controller.  I
installed an AV (McAfee - Virusscan 8.0i) then I rebooted and after the POST
it just freezes to a black screen.  No possibility to go into safe mode or
hit F8 key because it freezes before.

I heard that kind of problem was probably related with a bad Boot sector or
MBR or corrupted NTLDR.

I tried to boot up on win2k3 cd and go to recovery console, I tried fixboot
and fixmbr command.  Then I tried to copy NTLDR back from the cd to my drive
but strangely it says ACCESS DENIED but I'm logged on as Administrator.

The problem is that I deleted NTLDR instead of renaming it.

I don't have any ERD available.

What are my options??? It's a DC and it's the only one in this Enterprise.
I don't want to run a full re-install.  Is there some hope?

Thanks
Martin Ouimet

Hi Martin,
Do a parallel install on either the same partition or different partition.
Assuming your original installation as c:\windows and parallel as
c:\windows2, boot through windows2. Open registry editor. Click on
hkey_local_machine and go to file->load hive. Browse to
c:\windows\system32\config and opensystem and name the key as test. Go to
test\currentcontrolset\services\mvstdi5x. Double click on start on the right
hand pane and change the value to 4. Click on test, file->unload hive.  Look
for the presence of ntldr on your c drive and reboot the server to original
installation.
