Sharepoint prompts for credentials

Hi,

I created a sharepoint intranet. All works well, except I added the MSNBC
Stock and Weather Webparts on the default page. When Administrators(in AD)
open the intranet the webparts fetch the information no problem. WHen users
open the page it prompts them for credentials. Even if they put in thier own
credentials it wont clear the credential box until the user hits cancel. Then
the webparts fetch the info no problem.

Using the SQL 2000 for backend. Single server deployment.

Domain users have read only permission in sharepoint

The intranet address has been put in the intranet security zone in IE as
trusted so they may log in automatically.

I ran a test and when I put a user in the AD Administrators group, they were
no longer propted for credentials.

Obviously a NTFS permissions issue somewhere. Anyone got any ideas? Thanks!

The first thing that pops into my head is that is not the web part. Is this
vannilla Sharepoint 2003?

I would look at all the images and links on the page first, before looking
at the msnbc web part. Make sure they are not stored in any directories,
areas, or libraries that are admin access only.

If it is the web part, is it loaded to the bin or the GAC?

Hi Manny,

Yeah it's vanilla SPS2003. I did load the adobe Ifilter and added the icon
to the file in the bin folder so it would reconize the icon for adobe files.
Your correct, that is the other issue. The Icon comes up with a red X when
users hit cancel. But when admins login the Icon pops up next to the adobe
file that is listen on the homepage.

The webparts are the ones that came with the SPS install so I assume they are
loaded into the GAC.

Hi Manny,

Your absouletly right. When I took out the webpart that is showing a
document library that has adobe files in it, the user can login and is not
prompted anymore.

I figured it out. The PDF icon file was missing Authenticted users from the
ACL.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
