desktop picture with terminal services?

Hi,

Just got 2 brand new servers that came with Win2K3 Server Standard Edition.
Both have terminal services set-up on them and this works fine as other
machines on the network can remote desktop to them.

My problem is that I like to set a desktop background picture so that it is
easy to remember which machine your on (sometimes I am remoting to several
machines at once).

However from my XP Pro SP2 machine even when remoting to the server and
logging in as the domain admin the display properties for setting the
background picture are ghosted, all I can change is the background colour. I
used regedit to change the default wallpaper but it only appears on the
login dialog, once logged in the wallpaper disappears.

Before any one asks I have (a) Set my remote desktop client to allow desktop
background  and (b) in Terminal Services Configuration on the server the
Active Desktop setting is enabled.

In addition if I physically go to the server and login then I do get the
background as set in the registry.

Any ideas as to how I can get the desktop wallpaper to display when remote
desktop'ing into the server (or even better set the wallpaper so that it is
the same no matter which user you login as).

Regards,
Peter

You can find the option in tab Experience on Remote Desktop Connection. I'm
thinking about it by heart....

be aware though that having the background will affect the performance
of your desktop session.  Make sure you check the box that will cache
bitmaps.

Hi,

Thanks for the response.

At this point in time I don't care about performance I only care about
making it work.

However for the record my remote desktop client is set to cache bitmaps.

Does anyone have any ideas about how to get this to work?

Peter
