Hello all,

We are just starting to look into upgrading to Windows Server 2003 from NT
servers.  In one area on Microsoft's website it states the following:

/directory/activedirectory/stepbystep/domcntrl.mspx)

Use a sufficient number of workstations to simulate a variety of workstation
environments, including your organization's typical desktop, roaming user,
mobile user, and any other configurations that may be appropriate. These
computers must be capable of running Windows XP Professional. Microsoft
recommends a minimum of 64 MB of RAM for Intel processor-based workstations.
Does this really mean that they must be cable of running XP or they must be
XP?  All of our workstations are Windows 2000 professional and we are not
looking into upgrading to XP as of yet.

thanks

Gale

Windows 2000 Pro is usable as well, although you should take in
consideration, that the standard support for the Operating system has ended
recently. The functionality of Window 2003 Server is optimized for
cooperation with Windows XP, especially when it comes to Group Policies. So
yes, you can use Windows 2000 clients, but if you want the full set of
functionality Windows XP is the better choice.
And consider also 64 MByte as not enough, if your users also want to work
and not only leave their systems stand alone.
Best greetings from Germany
