Sorry to bother, but I was wondering...what is the difference between
scheduled tasks in Server 2k3 compared to them in Win xp pro SP2....

Reason I ask is, I've got backup scripts running to a NAS...on the
server they are working perfectly, but using the same method on xp,
they just don't want to run...security and paths are all correct, no
issue talking to anything...

Can anyone give me any thoughts/insight into the matter?

Thanks...

Hello,

any GPO restricting user to "log on as a batch" ?

does it work if you manually launch the batch ?

Any error in the scheduler task journal ?

Hello brett***@gmail.com,

What is the error message? Under scheduled tasks you should see an error
number, if it not run correctly.

Best regards

Underneath scheduled tasks? where is that? I've looked all through the
event logs and found no issue, and If I run the backup script it
works, if i manually run the scheduled task, it does not...
incredibly annoying, I wasn't aware there was a difference with
scheduled tasks between svr and xp....

Hello brett***@gmail.com,

Scheduled tasks is an option under start>control panel. Here are all scheduled
tasks listed by default that runs on a computer, doesn't matter if XP or
2003.
Please descrive how you have configured your system to deal with it.

You are talking about backup scripts, maybe they do not run as a scheduled
task? Please post the content of the script that we can follow you.

Best regards

The backup scripts definately run as a scheduled task - they are
working on Windows Svr 2k3 not a problem at all...and I'm aware of
where/how to setup a scheduled task, what I was referring to before
was Mathieu mentioned the scheduled task journal, that I haven't heard
of....

The backup file is a .brs  - I use batch run and robocopy to do the
backups (so I don't have to backup the whole directory again, robocopy
see if its a newer file, if so it backs it up otherwise it skips it -
(in case you weren't familiar with it))

So the content is simply

robocopy d:\mydocuments x:\backup\daily\graphics

Where mydocuments is the the directory to be copied, x is a mapped
network drive, and the rest is the directory to copy to....

Scheduled Tasks|Advanced|View Log may provide some details. If the job
connects to another machine you may need to add the user/ group 'logon as
batch job' rights (server side). Control Panel|Admin Tools|Local Security
Policy\Local Policies\User Rights Assignments
"Log on as a batch job"

If the task completes but the job does not then there is a problem in the
job itself. Remember that if it involves network resources to make sure the
user account has permissions to the resources and also use UNC paths as
mapped drives won't natively exist when no one is logged on.

If i manually run the script/backup, its fine...its only when I put it
in the scheduled tasks that it won't run...automatically or if i right

You'll want to use UNC paths as mapped drives won't natively exist when no
