8gb memory?I have a Win2003 Standard server and placed 8gb total memory inside. I have
modified the boot.ini file so it acknowledges all 4gb at first but what happens to the other 4gb? Will it all be utilized or will 4gb basically go to waste? Clarification is appreciated. Thanks "Tim Fitch" <timlee@nospam.alias> wrote in message Nothing. Clarification is appreciated. Standard Edition supports a max of 4 GB. What the heck does this server run? Thought so... :( Server is running a few VM's. Memory is your if you send

- Max 2 Gb Process memory + Max 2 Gb Kernel Memory - Or: use the 3GB switch and get Max 3 Gb Process memory + Max 2 Gb kernel Memory Special programs (like SQL Server) can use AWE, and address to 16 GB (in a very limited way) x64 (64 bits): - Max 4 Gb Process memory per 32 bits process (so 1 Gb more than on a 32 bits machine for all processes together). - almost no limit for 64 bits processes (limit depends on hardware) - almost no limit for kernel So, if you want to use lots of memory, install the x64 versions.
