Windows Time - No longer automatically updates

Since Sunday April 1, 2007 a number of my clients' and my computers have
advanced a further hour (DST +1) automatically and can no longer be set
automatically to the Windows time domain (time.windows.com).

I believe this is a universal problem requiring a Hot Patch" or "Update"
within the Windows time code.  I suspect that the original DST code may be
working on top of the new updated DST code.

Here are my findings:

When updating time with Internet time server (Start>Control Panel>Date,
Time, Language And Regional Options>Date And Time>Internet Time>Update Time)
one of the following error messages occur;

"An error occurred while Windows was synchronizing with time.windows.com.
The time sample was rejected because: The peer's stratum is less than the
host's stratum." or

"An error occurred while Windows was synchronizing with time.nist.gov."
Forwarded for you information and necessary action.

Likely you PDC Emulator (or another out-of-replicaton DC) is set to the
wrong time.

DCs copy from the PDC Emulator, non-DCs from the authenticating DC.

Good move if you have an unlimited support contract.

If you are paying by the hour you could probably have gotten this
for free-- and maybe faster here.

Please let me know if you hear anything, our servers were syncing perfectly
with time.windows.com until April 1st, now they cannot sync anymore.

Please keep us informed, I am surprised MS has not resolved this. I am in UK

About that time (a little earlier actually) we had the new Daylight Saving
Time
updates.

I had a feeling that was part of the problem, but why would that stop servers
from being updated? I am in the process of moving to a different time server
hopefully this will sort it.

If time is more than 5 minutes off then Kerberos authentication will fail
(by default) and so DCs can't replcicate, clients cannot authenticate, and
resource access is compromised for such computers.

Of course, if they are mutually wrong but at the same time, that still
works.
