Replacing SBS2003 with Win2003 Standard serverHi
We have a Win2003 SBS server running for our local domain (only DC, DNS,DHCP, no Exchange). Now we want to replace this SBS2003 with a Win2003 Standard server. Is it possible to install a new Win2003 Standard server into existing domain, promote it to DC, and then transfer all roles from SBS to Win2003 Standard and 'de-mount' and shut-down SBS2003 server? Will this work, or are there other ways to achieve this? Regards, Miha Obtain a Windows Small Business Server 2003 Transition Pack if it will be for
an existing domain. -- Show quoteHide quoteMCP MCDBA MCAD MCSD MCT MCTS MCITP:DBA "Helping people grow and develop their full potential as God has plan for them" "Miha" wrote: > Hi > > We have a Win2003 SBS server running for our local domain (only DC, > DNS,DHCP, no Exchange). Take a look at the following article: How to upgrade Small Business Server Domain Environment to regular Windows 2003 Domain http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555073 Here is the document the article is refering to: Migrating from Small Business Server 2000 or Windows 2000 Server to Windows Small Business Server 2003 http://download.microsoft.com/download/6/d/c/6dccf9b4-d915-4c95-b5af-100b89e02add/SBS_MigratingSBS2k.doc Regards, Anton Pegan Show quoteHide quote "Miha" <miha.ber***@email.si> wrote in message news:OUQOHScJHHA.3936@TK2MSFTNGP02.phx.gbl... > Hi > > We have a Win2003 SBS server running for our local domain (only DC, > DNS,DHCP, no Exchange). As far as I see, we need to buy SBS 2003 Transition Pack, but it is quite expensive. Are there any other options to move to Win2003 Standard without any extra licencing and to obtain existing domain (we don't have licence for SBS2003, but we have bought licences for Win2003 Standard + CAL's)? There is no need for you to use the Transition pack, it is just one of the options. The document describes in details what has to be done and unfortunately there is a lot of reading but take some time and study it thoroughly. www.sbsmigration.com and only complete 1/2 of it. That is, build a TempDC, take off line, seize all roles. Build your new DC, same name as SBS server, seize all roles. Transfer data from existing SBS server to newly built one. Take old server offline, put new server on network. Should work just fine. You will want to make sure you clean up any references to companyweb and remote web workplace and any other things you don't want. Hope that helps. Show quoteHide quote "Miha" wrote: > OK. Yes, your plan should be fine. If you can't transfer the roles (SBS may put up a fight), disconnect the SBS and sieze them. -- Show quoteHide quoteLes Connor [SBS MVP] "Miha" <miha.ber***@email.si> wrote in message news:OUQOHScJHHA.3936@TK2MSFTNGP02.phx.gbl... > Hi > > We have a Win2003 SBS server running for our local domain (only DC, > DNS,DHCP, no Exchange).
