Hi there!

Having troubles with subj installation on my server. Here is the gory details:
First time I've tried to run WindowsServer2003-KB889101-SP1-x86-ENU.exe, it hang up and made me to just reset the comp. Since that restart every time I trying to install the sp1, at the end of the process of extracting files from the distribution package I've got the folloving error sequence:

And, subsequently, installation finishes. No messages in the event log or any other additional info.
Meanwhile the server continues to work normally.

Does anybody has any comments on this? Thanks in advance!

Regards,
Andrew

I've tried to install it from two different locations - from network share (file has been downloaded from Microsoft) and from MSDN subscription CD - result is exactly the same.

This thread probably belongs in the windows.server.general newsgroup, where they are better equipped to deal directly with the /installation/ issues surrounding Service Pack 1.

Experimentation showed that the C:\Windows\System32\catroot folder held the answer, as when re-named, the error changed to path not found 80070003. I found a bunch of .CAT files in \catroot directory. As I clicked on them I found two bad ones, oem1.CAT and oem3.CAT. Renaming these two files to .old fixed the problem! They seemed to have magically disappeared after re-boot.
