4 GB of RAM not adsressable?

Hi NG,

one of our customers has a problem with a new system. We built 4 GB of RAM
in, but Windows Server 2003 only allocates 2,87 GB (Windows 2000 uses 3 GB).
Is there any way to use more of the built-in memory? I get this values by
"System" in control panel.

We used the following hardware:
Intel D915PCY Mainboard
INTEL Pentium4 660 3600MHz 2MB LGA775 90nm FSB800 CPU
4 GB of MDT DDR-II-533 RAM
MSI NX6200TC-TD64E 64MB DDR DVI Graphic Card

Hi Piet,

thanks for your post.
I already read that article, it applies for computers with more than 4 GB of
RAM. But we have exactly 4 GB of RAM, writing the /PAE switch into boot.ini
hat no effect there.

Anything else?

Mark

When you boot the system, what do you see during POST? Is it reporting 4GB
correctly?

Yes it shows the 4 GB correctly during POST.
That's why I'm thinking it is a software problem

Have you installed appropriate chipset drivers for your motherboard?

I believe this is something to do with the Intel chipset where some of the
memory was assigned to other devices.  We have similar problem and either
you put in the PAE option or leave it.

Seems you're right.
Intel describes on its website an EM64T technology for larger memory
support.
Could using Windows XP 64 Bit Edition result in 4 GB of avaiable RAM?
